The scale of sick leave and sick leave abuse in 2025

The latest report by Conperio shows that in 2025 almost one-third of the sick leave certificates that were inspected were being used improperly. Out of over 33,300 that were checked as many as 33%of them revealed irregularities.

The highest levels of absenteeism were recorded in the construction, logistics, and services sectors, for whihc the average annual rates of absenteeism exceeded 8%. During the period that was analysed there was also a noticeable further increase in the number of one-day sick leave certificates, especially, on Mondays and Fridays.

According to data from the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), in 2025, 27.5 million medical certificates of temporary incapacity for work were registered for a total of 290.5 million days of absence.
