The government has adopted a draft bill on social support for artists
On 26 May 2026, the Council of Ministers approved a draft bill on social security for people practicing an artistic profession. The new regulations are intended to support artists working on commission, 69% of whom earn below the national average and 30% of whom earn below the minimum wage.
The draft bill provides for:
- the introduction of the status of professional artist, granted for five years (after obtaining this status three times, an extension to eight years is possible);
- the creation of a system of subsidies for social security contributions for artists with an income of up to approximately PLN 68,000 gross per year;
- the access to health, sickness and maternity insurance under the scheme;
- entrusting the administration of the scheme to a specialised supervisory body (the existing Centre for Artistic Education).
The Act will come into force nine months after its publication in the Journal of Laws.
